Amsterdam House of Arts & Crafts

About

Oudeschans 21

Housed in a beautiful building, Amsterdam House of Arts & crafts offers an inspiring, creative and lively setting.

Several creative entrepreneurs and artists have their residency in different parts of the building.

Esther van Schagen, shoe designer and entrepreneur, the initiator of Amsterdam House of Arts & Crafts believes strongly in the sharing of ideas and creativity.

The building was originally designed and used as market storage for the second hand market that was placed on the Nieuwe Uilenburgerstraat. Our building connects Nieuwe Uilenburgerstraat 46 and Oudeschans 21.

The central space is our atelier. The different spaces are placed around it.

The workdesks are situated in the beautiful office space with view of the Montelbaanstoren at the Oudeschans.

Amsterdam House of Arts & Crafts aims to combine work and play, creation and the desire to manifest, learn and share, and gives a base to all that feel comfortable here.

In sum the Amsterdam House of Arts & Crafts is a creative working space for creators & creatives and the ideal place for every individual that wishes to manifest a desire to share, create, visit, learn and grow.

It makes Amsterdam House of Arts & Crafts a wonderful place to work and stay.

"We want to offer you the chance to become creative again and experience the joy in creating"

Creativity is what makes us thrive

Take your ideas and make them come to life. Experience what it is to put all that creative energy that is within you to work. And see how beautiful your inner world will reflect in your art.

We'd love to meet you in one of our many spaces and workshops. Don't be a stranger.

How did you get here?

This is a question that is frequently asked. And it has a simple answer. Start looking for a new place, because you have to move out of your old one. Get a crazy idea and start looking.

That is what I did almost 12 years ago. And I walked past the building, saw a run down poster that the bottom floor was for rent and I picked up a phone. After that it took some weeks to actually find the person in charge and I told him my crazy idea.

Apparantly he liked it. And after some negotiatons we signed a 1o year lease. I made it.

I have called this amazing place my home for more than 10 years and in that time I have seen good and bad times, seen people come and go, learn and grow, and I worked hard and changed when it was necessary. Made mistakes, corrected them, build and rebuild, painted, decorated, learned and had fun.  My grey hair tells a story.

I love my Amsterdam House of Arts & Crafts, I love sharing my creativity, I love learning, I love experimenting and I love teaching, painting, singing, sculpting, shoemaking, writing and being creative. And I would love it if you would come and learn, work, share and create with me, here at Amsterdam House of Arts & Crafts.
